Half Our Deen : Marriage is not a Destination

Allah (swt) says “And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.” [Quran 30:21]

Allah (swt) says that marriage is a “Sign”. So lets reflect on the word “Sign”

What is the purpose of a sign? It’s to show us the way. Right?
Is the sign a destination or is it a pointer towards a destination?
Lets look at it in a practical sense. When we drive on the motorway and we see sign, we don’t stop there we use it to help us reach our destination. Agree?

Our society and media have made us believe that marriage is a destination. Especially for women the one big question we get asked  by all the well meaning aunties is:
” WHEN ARE YOU GETTING MARRIED???”
Almost like when are you going to fulfil the purpose of your creation?
Treating unmarried/divorced women as incomplete and leaving them feel miserable.
This needs to Stop!

MARRIAGE IS NOT A DESTINATION, it is one of the many means to please Allah!
SPOUSES DON’T COMPLETE US, THEY COMPLEMENT US!
