SPIRITUAL HIGH: NON-FASTING DAYS

Our Prophet (PBUH) said, “Actions are judged on their endings.” [ Sahih Bukhari]

The last 10 nights are upon us. We are all searching for Laylat Ul Qadr ‘The Night of Decree’ which is equivalent to 83 years of worship . We want to up our Ibadah game as Ramadan will soon be gone. Let us end it in the best possible way!

However, some of us are unable to fast, pray Tarawih /Qiyaam or read Quran from Mushaf due to menstruation, pregnancy, post-natal bleeding or breastfeeding. This can leave us feeling spiritually distant and low as we feel like we are missing out.

Non- fasting days are challenging. Here are some practical tips to feel the spiritual high, instead of slacking and becoming lazy.

  • Stay connected to The Quran: Ramadan is the month of the Quran. Stay connected to it by listening to your favourite reciters, reading simple translations of the Quran from your phone and reflect upon its meanings.
  • Earn reward of Fasting: Prophet PBUH said, “Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward like theirs, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.” [Sunan Ibn Majah]. Make the most of the energy you have during non- fasting days and cook iftar for your family and friends who are fasting.
  • Dhikr and Dua: Dhikr is a beautiful way of connecting with Allah when you are unable to pray. Make plenty of dua, seek forgiveness by engaging in astagfaar. Make a dua list. Ask Allah as much as your heart desires as this is the month of acceptance and Rahma (mercy)
  • Charity: The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The best charity is that given in Ramadan.” [al-Tirmidhi] Donate generously, you could also multiply your rewards by fundraising for a cause close to your heart.
  • Seek Knowledge and Spread it:  listen to Islamic lectures, read books on Islamic topics and learn more about our Deen. Take the opportunity to spread the word of Allah by sharing what you learnt to people around you and on social media platforms.
